LPDD Recommendation: “Congress should maintain and, better still, increase financial assistance, in the form of grants, guaranteed loans, or tax credits, to support continued development of CCS technology, including CCS that is deployed at biorefineries.”

LPDD Recommendation: “DOE and USDA should redeploy funding for biofuels research to development of fuels that have high-value uses, such as biomass-based diesel.”

LPDD Recommendation: “State legislatures could provide tax credits or grant funding to stimulate investment in R&D focused on the costs and benefits of pre-transport processing of feedstocks, as well as improved equipment to harvest, store, and deliver feedstock for biofuels.”

DOE Bioenergy Research and Development Portfolio

DOE has funded several bioenergy R&D projects, including a 2018 announcement of 36 projects totaling $80 million of support to develop drop-in renewable hydrocarbon fuels, bio-based products, and power from non-food biomass and waste feedstocks.

Biomass Research and Development Initiative

Legislatively directed to address technical areas including feedstock development; biofuels and biobased products development; and biofuels development analysis.
