5.7.6 Green Recovery

Legal Pathways to Deep Decarbonization in the United States was published before the COVID-19 crisis that shook the world and spurred governments to invest enormous sums into economic recovery. The text, however, does speak to issues of providing for a just energy transition and avoiding stranded assets in Chapter 24, which are at the heart of the discourse around a green recovery. We continue to follow these topics closely, and will collect green recovery proposals here.

Charlotte Shared Streets Initiative

The City of Charlotte launched the Charlotte Shared Streets initiative to support social distancing and pedestrian/bicycle safety during the COVID-19 crisis.

Seattle’s Healthy Streets Pilot

Shut down 20 miles of streets in order to allow pedestrians and cyclists more room to move while socially distancing. Became permanent in May 2020.
