Atlanta’s Code of Ordinances (2016) requires both energy benchmarking and auditing. Benchmarking is required for city-owned buildings over 10,000 sf or certain classes of buildings over 25,000 sf. The ordinance requires owners to benchmark and provide annual reports using the EPA’s Portfolio Manager tool. The department makes available to the public the benchmarking information of covered properties with energy performances equal to or greater than an Energy Star score of 55. Auditing is required for buildings of certain classes with an area greater than 25,000 sf. An energy audit must be performed once every ten years and a summary audit report submitted.
