Austin TX’s RPS goal is 65% of electricity consumption from renewables by 2025, which is among the most ambitious targets in the country. Within the RPS, the City Council approved a solar carve-out in 2014, which requires Austin Energy’s generation mix to include 950 MW of solar capacity by 2025, including 200 MW of “local solar,” of which at least 100 MW is required to be customer-controlled or “behind the meter” solar.
