California established a $40 million monetary incentive program under which certain renewable gas producers can recover a portion of their interconnection costs from gas utilities. A 2016 bill, AB 2313, changed the amount of money available to each project. The program was scheduled to expire in 2020, but a 2019 bill required the commission to extend the program until December 31, 2026, or until all available program funds are expended, whichever occurs first. It provides renewable gas producers with one-time payments equal to 50% of interconnection costs up to a maximum of $1.5 million.
