Climate Action 100+ is an investor initiative to pressure the world’s largest corporate greenhouse gas emitters take necessary action on climate change. The companies targeted by this initiative include 100 ‘systemically important emitters’, accounting for two-thirds of annual global industrial emissions, alongside more than 60 others with significant opportunity to drive the clean energy transition.
The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) represents one of the largest Climate Action 100+ members harnessing public moneys for climate-smart investment, with over $349 billion of assets leveraged.
Per their webpage, the organization works with more than 500 investors with over $47 trillion in assets collectively under management. They are pressuring companies to:
- Curb emissions
- Improve governance and
- Strengthen climate-related financial disclosures.
Their approach is documented in their 2019 Progress Report, included below.
