Massachusetts’ 2008 Green Communities Act originally named gasification facilities with carbon captures technologies as one of five eligible alternative energy sources under the state’s Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard. The AEPS requires that that the state acquire 5% of its energy uses from qualifying sources by 2020. However, gasification with carbon capture was removed as a qualifying source in 2014.
