Massachusetts’ proposed S. 2476 (2020) would compel the conversion of all MBTA buses to 100% electric by 2030. The legislation goes further, requiring the MBTA to have a completely zero emissions fleet by 2040. It also would impose new zero emissions requirement for state vehicles beginning in 2024 (contingent on affordable replacements being available), and mandates a study on the electrification of vehicles owned or leased by municipalities, regional school districts, and regional transit authorities.
