The Chancery Lane Project, a collaborative effort of UK lawyers to develop new contracts and model laws to help fight climate change, has published a model law that would amend existing UK law to require the appointment of corporate Environment Officers, who would be responsible for environmental reporting. The model law would standardize environmental reporting practices across corporations. Businesses would be obliged to register for a small annual fee and then comply with reporting standards, at risk of fines for noncompliance, and potentially inspections.
The model law is available in the attached volume at page 34 (“Ben’s Law”).
