New Jersey banned offshore oil drilling in 2018 with the “Shore Tourism and Ocean Protection from Offshore Oil and Gas Act.” Though New Jersey has no control over drilling in federal waters, by blocking the construction of any infrastructure such as pipelines or docks that could transfer the oil, they greatly increase the cost of drilling in federal waters off their shores.
