New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act increased the ambition of the state’s Renewable Portfolio standard to target 70 percent renewable electricity by 2030 and 100 percent carbon-free electricity by 2040.
In June 2020, Public Service Commission Staff released a white paper on adapting the state’s existing Clean Energy Standard to meet the targets of the CLCPA by increasing the procurement of Tier 1 renewable energy projects by 40% and establish a new Tier 4 for renewable energy credits which would include a broader list of hydroelectric resources.
