Would award temporary adjustment assistance to workers of adversely affected coal-related industries who are totally or partially separated because of the low cost of competing alternative forms of energy.

Proposed Healthy Employee Loss Prevention Act of 2018

Would establish a worker adjustment assistance program to provide assistance and job retraining for workers who have lost their jobs due to unplanned closures of coal and coal dependent industries.

Proposed RECLAIM Act of 2017

Would provide $1 billion dollars over five years to restore abandoned coal mines to something like their natural state, while also scaling up economic diversification efforts in coal country.

New Mexico’s SB 489

Will shut down a coal power plant by creating a system to sell bonds that would make up for the money the utility would lose by closing the facility.

Colorado Energy Plan

Xcel Energy will shut down two of the three units at the Comanche coal plant near Pueblo Colorado, and replace that power with a mix of new renewable energy and battery storage projects along with existing natural gas plants.

Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power Coal Divestment

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reduced its coal consumption by 25% in 2016 with the divestiture from the Navajo Generating Station, part of a plan to divest from all coal sources by 2025.
