Pennsylvania’s 2016 State Forest Resource Management Plan recognizes carbon sequestration as one of many consistent objectives of the plan for managing Pennsylvania’s 2.2 million-acre state forest system. Pennsylvania manages its forests to achieve standards that meet or exceed those of the Forest Stewardship Council and has been certified under that program as well as that of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, each of which value carbon sequestration. This is consistent with the Pennsylvania State Constitution, which calls for the conservation of forests and other public resources for the benefit of future generations.
