In 2020, San Francisco approved a new development at the former Potrero Power Station. The new development, the Potrero Power Station Mixed-Use Project, will be a 29-acre sustainable community project designed to include walkable blocks, pedestrian and cyclist connections between open spaces, and new shared transportation modes. All buildings will be required to meet Gold or better LEEDv4 certifications, and the project may build shared thermal energy plants. Of the neighborhood’s 2,600 homes, 30% will be designated for lower-income families.
The project’s enacting legislation, Ordinance 61-20, became effective on May 25, 2020.
