Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnerships cover 43 US states and four Canadian provinces. Their goal since 2008 has been to implement eight large-scale (defined as sequestering one million metric tons or more of CO2) geologic storage and utilization projects in order to confirm that CO2 sequestration can be achieved safely, permanently, and economically. They have been funded by approximately $591 million of DOE funds as of a 2015 audit.
