Hill et al.’s 2016 report, Climate Consequences of Low-Carbon Fuels: The United States Renewable Fuel Standard, offers insight on the economic rebound effect for global fossil fuel consumption in a scenario where the US significantly offsets petroleum consumption in transportation with biofuels. It concludes that the fuel market rebound effect may seriously undercut GHG emissions reductions from biofuels based on lowering the global petroleum price.
