This 2020 Solar Power Europe and LUT University report provides an assessment demonstrating the lowest cost feasible energy mix with the transitioning of the power, heat, and transport sectors towards an integrated energy system across Europe up to 2050. It presents three model pathways, hitting 62% renewable energy in 2050, 100% renewable energy in 2050, and 200% renewable energy in 2040. The project uses a technology-rich, multi-sectoral, multi-regional and cost-optimal analysis, with a high spatial (20 sub-regions) and temporal (hourly) resolution of energy transition pathways for Europe. It uses this analysis to found a set of policy recommendations, ranging from grid modernization to industrial solar deployment to new skills and training programs for the renewable workforce.
