The Grantham Institute published a 2012 report, Reducing CO2 emissions from heavy industry: a review of technologies and considerations for policy makers. The report outlines the options for reducing industrial CO2 emissions, concentrating on those sectors which make up the largest share (>70%) of emissions, i.e. iron and steel, cement and chemicals and petrochemicals. Pages 7 to 11 discuss mitigation technology options in the petrochemical industry, including midterm improvements like carbon capture and storage, new catalysts and catalytic conversion routes.
