The REAP program provides grants up to $500,000 and loans to agricultural producers and rural small businesses for energy systems. While REAP funding is available for renewable gas systems, numerous restrictions apply, including that the system produce biogas via anaerobic digestion or hydrogen from renewable sources. No funding is available for systems producing biogas through thermal gasification or synthetic methane through power-to-gas.
A total of 30 anaerobic digester projects were funded through REAP between 2013 and 2016, helping reduce methane waste.
