The UK’s End of Life Vehicles regulations transpose the EU ELV Directive through regulations passed in 2003 and 2005. The 2003 regulations include the use of improved standards for vehicle treatment sites and the establishment of a Certificate of Destruction system. The 2005 regulations require vehicle producers to make available networks of facilities where last owners of vehicle brands may take them free of charge for end-of-life management. The Consortium for Automotive Recycling (CARE) is a collaborative project involving the main UK motor vehicle manufacturers/importers and vehicle dismantlers to reduce End of Life Vehicles going to landfill.
