Established by the Airport and Airway Improvement Act of 1982, the Federal Aviation Administration runs a Voluntary Airport Low Emissions Program, which is primarily designed to combat air pollution, and only airports in areas of bad air pollution are eligible to apply. It is funded by the Airport Improvement Program. Airports can apply for funding to purchase lower emissions technology.
