DC’s Proposed Light Touch Microgrid Regulation

Notice considers different multi-factor tests in use in other jurisdictions for determining when a microgrid should be subjected to complete utility regulation, and invites comment on the path forward in DC. 

California’s SB 1339

Requires the CPUC to develop regulations, standards, and guidelines by December 1, 2020, to facilitate the commercialization of microgrids for customers of large electric utilities.

Laurel MD solar microgrid

The Maryland Energy Administration awarded a grant to Standard Solar for the development of a large, entirely solar and battery powered microgrid in an office park in Laurel, MD.
